Bingo: Fire department to hold special bingo
The Ulster-Sheshequin Fire Department will be holding a special
Bingo day this Saturday that will not only allow people to win money,
but will also allow them to help raise money for breast cancer awareness
Karen Bixby, member of the Ulster-Sheshequin Fire Department, said the fire department decided to donate the proceeds of its Bingo event on Oct. 18 to go toward breast cancer awareness.
Bixby said this will be the second year the fire department is raising funds for breast cancer. Last year, she said they had the proceeds from one game of Bingo donated, raising $400.
"This year, the whole day is going to go to breast cancer," Bixby said.
She said that she and her mother are both breast cancer survivors. When the fire company saw what she was going through, Bixby said they asked what she would think about holding a Bingo event to raise funds for breast cancer awareness.
"I thought it was a wonderful idea," she said.
The doors will open at 10:30 a.m. on Oct. 18, with Bingo beginning at noon at the Ulster-Sheshequin fire hall, Bixby said.
Along with the Bingo games, she said there will also be pull tabs games, door prizes, jackpots, and shirts for sale.
Dick Farr, Bingo chairperson, said that everything on Saturday will have to do with breast cancer awareness.
"Even the rip-off tickets have the ribbon on them," he said.
Farr said they are expecting many people to come to the event, and as a result, there will be no reserved seating like there normally is, he said.
"The more bingo players that we have come in, the more money we will raise to fight this," Bixby said.
She added that their goal is to raise $4,000
The kitchen will be open for refreshments, she said, and there will also be a bake sale going on.
