Some lucky uk bingo fans could be going bump in the night this Halloween - as they may well be jumping for joy. Bingos UK and Virgin Bingo both have 'grand' plans, as each is operating a £1,000 jackpot promotion this October 31st. Players should have been collecting points on the special Bingos UK promotional patterns if they want to enter the site's contest. And from 20:00 GMT until the witching hour of midnight tonight, more than £1,000 in cash prizes are to be given out. The player securing the most wins during the course of the final is to receive £500 cash, Bingos UK states. Meanwhile, Virgin Bingo is holding its Trick or Treat game at 20:30 GMT with a £500 jackpot if the win is called on an odd number. But reach bingo on an even number and the "spooktacular" sum of £1,000 is promised to the lucky winner.

Former Bingo Hall Manager Gets Sentenced By Judge For Stealing Money

|
The Kensington Bingo Centre has been a place where people came to play friendly games of Bingo and where the money that was generated went to charity, but the manager of the hall apparently thought the charity was her pocket as she was sentenced for stealing money from the hall.

Terry Joan Aikens was a manager at Kensington and she was caught stealing the money after an auditor from Alberta Gaming and Liquor came in and realized that over $36,500 was missing.

When confronted, Aikens apparently told the auditor that the money was in the concession account. But when bank statements showed that only $12,000 was in the concessions account, the inspector continued his investigation.

The remaining money was turned over to the inspector after Aikens admitted to taking the money, and while her lawyer claims that she always repaid the money, she still was sentenced.

The sentence included a twelve month sentence that was to be served in the community. The first six months will be served on house arrest, and the next six will be served with a 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. curfew. 60 hours of community service will also have to be done by Aikens.

Eu Online Bingo Laws To Be Challenged Soon

|

The EU gambling laws are likely to be the subject of a challenge in the context of online bingo in the immediate future.

As so often in the past, France is asserting its protectionist policies over European Union legislation which calls for trade barriers within the EU to be relaxed.

In the case in point, Mr Petter Nylander, Chief Executive of Unibet, was arrested by Dutch police on a French warrant citing a breach of the monopolistic French gambling laws.  Mr Nylander has decided against opposing his extradition to France, and is ready to back up in court his vocal criticism of the French laws.

The dispute comes at a time when the new French government is attempting to negotiate a softer line on online gambling with its own authorities. It has been suggested that the government may press French legal authorities to drop the case. Meanwhile the European Commission has warned the parties that Mr Nylander may well be innocent of the charges against him, given the primacy of the EU laws.

The case is attracting the attention of all sectors of the online gaming industry in Europe, including online bingo. In the light of the arrest some months ago in the USA of a non-US gaming executive while in transit, European countries and industry stakeholders are closely monitoring the case. Many believe that it will be an indicator of where the whole question of free markets within the European Union is heading.

Unibet is an online gaming company registered in Malta, with over 1,800,000 customers throughout the EU. The company operates from Britain.

A company spokesperson declared Unibet's anger at the seeming French disregard for EU free trade regulations. Speaking to newspapers in Holland, the spokesperson stated categorically that the company had not infringed the relevant law. It held a licence for one of the EU member countries, namely Britain, and the law clearly allowed access to all other member states based on licensing within any one of them.

Is the French civil service again out of step in leading the charge for protectionism? And will the new government succeed in reining in the civil service's power? We may all have the answers in the very near future.

Bingo thief gets house arrest

 Stole $14,000 from north-side hall

By TONY BLAIS, COURT BUREAU

The former manager of a north-side bingo hall was put under house arrest today after admitting stealing $14,000 of charity-bound proceeds to gamble.

Terry Joan Aikens, 58, pleaded guilty to one count of theft over $5,000 and was handed a 12-month conditional sentence to be served in the community.

Provincial court Judge Peter Caffaro ordered Aikens to be under house arrest for the first six months of the sentence and to abide by a 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. curfew for the remaining six months.

She must also perform 60 hours of community service.

Crown prosecutor Rhonda Tibbitt told court Aikens had been the paid hall manager at the Kensington Bingo Centre, 12538 132 Ave., and was a registered gaming worker.

Between Dec. 1, 2006, and May 25, Aikens stole money from the hall's concession account, in amounts ranging from $1,000 to $3,000, for a total of $14,000.

Aikens was caught following an audit by an Alberta Gaming and Liquor Commission (ALGC) inspector in May.

Court heard the inspector confronted Aikens after discovering $36,500 was missing from the bingo take and was told the money was in the concessions account.

The inspector asked for bank documentation and was provided paperwork which showed there was $12,000 in the concessions account. However, that still left $24,500 short.

When questioned further, Aikens said the money was in her desk drawer and gave it to the inspector.

But, after noticing a lot of the money was in sequential $50 bills, the inspector kept probing and Aikens eventually admitted she had stolen money and the $50 bills had come from a bank and were her repayment.

Defence lawyer Geoff Green told court Aikens had lost her husband of 36 years the previous year to cancer and was left with nothing but an alcoholic 30-year-old son, which resulted in her becoming depressed.

Green said Aikens used the stolen money to gamble, but always repaid it.

Aikens no longer works at the bingo centre.

Bingo Jackpot promises bright Christmas

|
A 33-year-old mother of three from Yelverton claimed the national bingo prize of £80,000 after completing her full house in 40 calls.

The victory follows six years of absence from the Mecca Bingo club in Devonport, she reveals to National Bingo.

"We're still getting over the shock so we haven't decided exactly what we're going to do with the money," the winner informs the game's operating body.

"But a family trip to Euro Disney is a possibility - and we're definitely going to have a great Christmas."

Despite being members of a different club for six years - since moving house - the victory came at her old Devonport Mecca Bingo hall.

And the winner explains that she and her husband only went there because they were late for the start of the session at their usual venue.

More than three million Britons play bingo twice a week or more, according to National Bingo figures.

Bingo UK reminds user of clock change

|

Following the clock change on Sunday morning, October 28th, British summertime reverted to Greenwich Mean Time, Bingos UK points out.

And this means regularly scheduled games now take place an hour later than their previous BST time.

"Don't forget to turn back your clocks ... to avoid missing your favourite bingo specials," the bingo website advises members who are yet to make the change.

Bingos UK adds that October is a month of big wins following Mccab1069's six-figure Bring Home the Bacon victory.

The progressive jackpot was claimed again by Melusa at a figure of £3,304.66, while teresac1 hit the 5p bingo jackpot to scoop some £1,133.95.

Prior to October, the bingo website's jackpots had not broken since August 23rd, when Peevor secured a £22,504.50 win on the Living Large slots, Bingos UK reveals.

Update on Nylander arrest - Online Bingo News

|

Unibet CEO Petter Nylander will not fight his extradition to France after Dutch authorities arrested him last Monday in connection with an arrest warrant issued by France.

The outspoken Nylander, a vocal critic of France's monopolistic gambling policies, will be transferred to France next Monday to face possible charges under old French protectionist laws, an issue seen at odds with European Union (EU) legislation which demands the relaxing of trade barriers within the EU.  The European Commission has already commented on the case saying Nylander's arrest may constitute the arrest of an innocent person.

The timing of the arrest could not have come at worse time for the French government with is in the process of trying to negotiate a relaxation of its state-run gambling monopoly laws which would see companies like that of Nylander's being granted access to the French market.  It's believed the French government may bring pressure to bear on its legal authorities to drop the case against Nylander.

All sectors within the European online gambling industry, including the online bingo and free online bingo games sector, will be taking a detailed interest in how this case develops.  With memories fresh in the online bingo community of US authorities arresting online gaming executive while in transit, the case may well become a bell weather moment in the development of free markets with in the EU.

Unibet is a Malta registered online betting business operated from Britain and caters for up to 1.8 million customers. A Unibet spokesmen said the company is outraged by the apparent disregard of EU law by France.

"We are doing nothing illegal because we have a license for Britain," The spokesman claimed to Dutch newspapers. "According to the European rules, if you have a licence for one member state, you are authorised to use it in the others."

British bingo-players find trouble in Turkey

|

Two unsuspecting British holidaymakers ended up in a police interrogation in Turkey after what they thought was an innocent game of bingo.

Sarah Holland and Carla Harrison, both 25, from North Wales were on holiday in Altinkum when they decided to join in a fun bingo game in a bar, hoping to win free drinks. Little did they know that this would lead them to be arrested and questioned by local police for four hours, and subsequently fined the equivalent of £42.

The two girls could not believe their bad luck and thought at first that it was all a big joke... until they were hustled into a police van.

In Turkish law, gambling - including bingo - is illegal.

So unless you want a really good story to tell on your return, watch out for local customs if you're planning a flutter whilst you're away.

Still Playing Bingo Despite Winning £1 Million Jackpot

Margaret Shearer, Scotland's first bingo millionaire, still goes to bingo four times a week.

As she has done for the past 30 years, Margaret Shearer continues to play bingo several times a week. A month or so ago, Margaret won the first £1 million bingo jackpot since Scotland's gaming laws were relaxed to make such huge prizes possible.

The luck continues to run for Margaret's family as her long-term playing partner, Mrs Greta Money (Margaret's mum) won £140 and £74 on the trot.

Margaret's big win came just three weeks after she was made redundant from her job with McVitie's Biscuits. With legendary Scottish thrift, she has so far limited her splurge to a nice new jacket at the local Debenham's sale.

However, Margaret and her partner Joe, who presently live in a Glasgow east end council flat, had been looking at houses just before her regular visit to The Forge's Mecca bingo hall last Sunday night. The couple were inspecting detached properties in the £300,000 range in nearby Lenzie and Stepps.

Obviously not one for rushing into things, Margaret hasn't seen a house that really suits herself and Joe yet. "We also went to look at cars," says Margaret, "but were a bit disappointed in what we saw."

Margaret is keen to help her son David acquire a property. David seems to have inherited his mum's level-headed, no-rush, matter-of-fact nature, and hasn't been able to take time off from work to look around as yet.

Stunned at the time of her win, we asked Margaret whether it had finally sunk in, and changed her in any way. "I know people usually say that they won't change if they win lots of money, but I really meant it," she replied.

And will she keep on playing bingo?  "I love my bingo -- it's a social thing for me," she said. "We were here Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday," she added. "And at least I won't have to worry about the price of the books any more!"

PartyGaming announces excellent third quarter results - Online Bingo News

|
The online gaming sector receive a confidence boosting announcement from online gaming group PartyGaming which is reporting a 24% increase in revenues to US$116 million for its third quarter, 2007. The figure marks a 5% rise on the previous quarter.

The excellent results are attributed to the company's strong performance in its online casino operations, which also offer customers a comprehensive online bingo option and a range of online bingo games under the PartyBingo brand.

PartyGmaing has confirmed that its improved performance owes much to its growth in its casino operations.  This was despite a 14% drop in yield per active player day due to the loss of the US market last year.

Many online gaming companies, including online bingo halls and free bingo online operators, were effectively shut out of the US market through the implementation of the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act in that country.  The industry will receive a much needed confidence boost through PartyGaming's successful rebound from that event.

Proposed bingo rules imperil tribe's plans

|

By George Brennan

STAFF WRITER

October 29, 2007

The Mashpee Wampanoag could lose their bingo trump card if the National Indian Gaming Commission adopts proposed regulations regarding video bingo machines.

New rules proposed last week would create a clear distinction between Class II and Class III gaming, commission spokesman Shawn Pensoneau said Friday. The regulations would limit tribal casinos from passing off video bingo machines -- also called bingo slots -- as more lucrative slot machines in states where Las Vegas-style casino gaming is illegal, he said.

Bingo falls under the Class II gaming designation; Class III, or casino, gaming includes slot machines and table games. Video bingo machines are almost identical in look to slot machines but players vie against each other rather than the house.

Only Class I and II gambling are legal in Massachusetts. Gov. Deval Patrick, however, filed a bill earlier this month that, if passed, would allow state officials to sell licenses for three commercial casinos. The bill must pass the Legislature, where it faces an uphill battle in the House. The state would also get a percentage of the casino revenues.

Seminole model

On several occasions, Mashpee tribe leaders have said if the state rejects an expansion to Class III gaming, they would pursue a bingo-style casino similar to the ones operated by the Seminole Indians in Florida. Last year, the Seminoles and another tribe made $1.6 billion operating eight casinos featuring so-called "bingo slots." Because Class II gaming is legal in Florida, the tribes do not share gaming revenue with the state.

"The tribe's preference has always been to do what the governor has proposed," tribal council spokesman Scott Ferson said Friday. "The tribe doesn't want to be forced into the position to do a bingo parlor. If that's the only economic development they can pursue, they will."

Traditional slot machines are much more lucrative than bingo slots. The two Connecticut casinos, Foxwoods and Mohegan Sun, brought in $2.4 billion in slots revenues compared with the $1.6 billion in revenues at the eight Florida casinos

$1 billion a year

Ernie Stevens Jr., chairman of the National Indian Gaming Association, said the proposed rules regarding bingo slots could cost tribes $1 billion annually.

"That's devastating for the Class II industry and hurts rural tribal economies," Stevens said. "The most basic problem is that the new regulations arbitrarily slow down Class II games, making them less fun and less marketable."

Under the Indian Gaming Regulatory Act of 1988, tribes are required to enter into compacts with states where Class III gambling is allowed. In states where only Class II gaming is allowed, a tribe can open high-stakes bingo halls on the reservation without giving the state a penny.

The commission is accepting comments on the regulations, now published on the Federal Register, through Dec. 10.

In an industry that's booming -- tribal gaming took in $25 billion last year -- revenue from Class II gaming, including video bingo, grew 90 percent faster than Vegas-style gaming, according to Alan Meister's Indian Gaming Industry Report.

The commission has been attempting to rein in video bingo since 2004, but has faced some fierce opposition from tribes.

Sovereign rights

Ferson said it's too early to say if the Mashpee tribe would oppose the latest regulations, but said tribe leaders have spoken out against other issues such as a guideline that requires the tribe to build a casino with

Bingo Cushions: Finding the Lucky One

|
Not many people go play bingo without their trusty bingo cushions coming along with them. Going without this special cushion would surely be very unlucky. Bingo is quite a popular game and the corresponding paraphernalia has also become popular as well. Now there are bingo bags, mugs, cushions, and many other things that are part of the lucky combination. If you do not have your lucky cushion yet you need to start looking for one that will bring you luck at the game. There are a few tips to remember when you are going to find the lucky one.

Find Your Lucky Style
Every single person has their own unique style, from the way they dress or decorate their home, to how they play bingo. This sense of style overflows into every aspect of their life and it comes forth in bingo too. When you are choosing a cushion out of the many bingo cushions that are available you want to find one that reflects your own unique sense of style. Some people might go for an understated cushion that is elegant and comfortable. Others may choose a cushion that is bright and loud, just as their bingo playing is. Find what works for you and choose that style to bring you luck at your game.

Comfort is Lucky Too
While the appearance of bingo cushions is very important you must remember that comfort is equally important. After all, you will be spending many hours with this cushion and it needs to have the right comfort in all the right places. Every person has a different version of comfort and some people may prefer a stiffer cushion, while others prefer to have a very cushy and soft cushion. Whatever your preference may be, make sure that you will be comfortable with this cushion for long periods of time. You do not want to miss a bingo win because you were wiggling on an uncomfortable cushion and missed the winning call.

Matching Cushions
It should be noted that bingo cushions are only one item of bingo paraphernalia and there are many other items for bingo that can be purchased as well. Some people find it lucky to have everything match. Some people have a favorite cartoon character or TV show that they enjoy and have all their bingo items in matching sets that reflect this character. You can find matching sets on Elvis and other popular singers as well. Maybe Betty Boop is your favorite character. You can find bingo items that all match that feature her. No matter what you like you can probably find a bingo set to go along with that specific theme. Who knows, you just might get lucky with your matching set.

Some people believe that their luck at bingo lies in the cushion they choose. This makes choosing one cushion from the vast amount of bingo cushions a very important decision. You want the very best cushion for playing bingo, and you want it to bring you great luck as well. Remember these tips for consideration and try your own luck at purchasing a bingo cushion.

Bingo Association says community interaction declining - Online Bingo News

|

The UK's Bingo Association has published a study it commissioned which purports to show the social impacts of club closures throughout the country in the wake of anti-smoking laws and burdensome taxes.

The land-based sector in bingo has also been under increasing pressure from the emerging online bingo industry which provides free online bingo games to players in the comfort of their own homes.

The survey finds that "the vast majority (97 per cent) of people believe that traditional social activities in the UK help foster a sense of belonging in the community, nearly half (49%) say they are in decline and would prefer to stay at home, watch television, or spend time on the telephone with family and friends."

Highlights from the survey include:

    * Whilst 70% of all adults believe that going to church is an important community activity, only 31% actually attend.
    * Social networking and emailing have now overtaken going to church or to the local sports club in popularity. Three times as many 16-24 year olds use the internet to interact with their family and friends as go to more traditional venues for meeting people. And social networking is fast approaching going to the pub in terms of its popularity amongst people in the UK.
    * Watching television scored most highly in terms of preferred leisure activity, according to 85 per cent of women and 78 per cent of men.
    * Eating out, emerges as a popular social activity, and a way of keeping in touch with friends and family, but still falls behind watching TV in terms of preference.

The Bingo Association is also publishing a report written by the Henley Centre Headlight Vision into the 'Social Impact of Bingo Club Closures'.  Online bingo players interested in reading the full report can download it at the Bingo Association's website.

The reports says an estimated 3.8 million UK adults play bingo with a 16% rise for people aged under 41 in the last six years.  Also, in conjunction with the research conducted by GFK NOP, 48 per cent of the general population view bingo as an important venue for social interaction.

According to the Bingo Association, the Henley Centre report reveals that:

    * Bingo plays an important role in promoting a sense of belonging to a local community. It is one of the few leisure pursuits that brings together people of all ages
    * When a bingo club closes, former patrons can feel isolated and alone, and some even cease to leave their homes altogether
    * In comparison with the general population, bingo players spend a great deal of time with their families - 82 per cent of bingo players see their families either every day or a few times a week, compared with an average of 54 per cent among those involved in other social activities.

Paul Talboys, Chief Executive of The Bingo Association, said:

"Both of these pieces of research provide us with a fascinating insight into how traditional community activities and social pursuits are changing.  Bingo players feel very strongly about their local clubs and the role that these clubs play is very important in terms of ensuring people retain a sense of belonging in their local community.  Whilst bingo is a very popular game, the industry has been heavily impacted by recent regulation which could limit its ability to adapt quickly to the changing shape of local communities and nature of social interaction."

Dr Carolyn Downs, historian and sociologist at Manchester Metropolitan University, who contributed to the report, said:

"Traditional bingo clubs may play an important role in maintaining a sense of connectedness to the local community amongst both players and staff. This is more likely to be the case in rural or more deprived urban areas. Where there are no alternative social networks, loss of a sense of belonging could have repercussions on both individuals and society as a whole, and might contribute to isolation and social dislocation."

Online bingo still promotes a traditional sense of community

|
The UK's Bingo Association, that bastion of hope for the beleaguered land-based sector of our bingo industry, has just published a report in which it attempts to make a connection between declining community interaction and the demise of the land-based bingo hall.

The report is quite far reaching and certainly provides a comprehensive look at issues regarding the way UK adults spend their leisure time and how that relates back to a sense of community.

However, what I find curious about the report is that within the vast assemblage of facts and survey results, there is very little of substance dealing with the impact of a new generation of online bingo halls and the effect on bingo habits provided by free online bingo games.  It's as if the report simply does not want to deal with the change in social habits now provided by 'living online', as so many UK people now do.

It's understandable that the Bingo Association and its vested interest in keeping traditional land-based bingo chugging along would look to interpret the results of such a study as evidence that land-based bingo needs to be supported - if only for the sake of our sense of community. But there may be other factors at play here that tell a slightly different story.
Online bingo is one of the online gambling industry's fastest growing niches, and given that the Bingo Association-sponsored survey shows a large proportion of the population preferring to stay home during their leisure hours, it makes sense that free online bingo is a natural option for such people looking to play bingo.

Also, let's not forget that one of online bingo's greatest attractions is that it still facilitates a sense of community via its chat room functions and inter-player communications.  In the end, online bingo is still about 'community interaction', it's just that it's a different way of communicating within the bingo community.

Fury over bingo ad film's trail of rubbish

|

RESIDENTS are furious after film staff who came to the city to record a television advert left behind a trail of trash.

People living near to Sefton Park were horrified to be confronted with bags of discarded rubbish and rotting foodstuffs on Saturday.

The culprit was a film company making a commercial for online bingo company Foxy Bingo.

Biscuit Films had agreed to clean up the mess when they left, but it is understood they were let down by a contractor who should have taken it away on Friday.

The rubbish was at the Livingstone Avenue end of the park and was still there when the Liverpool 10K went through on Sunday.

It was finally cleared yesterday.

The advert, which took two days to make, had been filmed on Lark Lane in Aigburth.

It saw scoresof extras transformed to represent different bingo numbers.

One resident, who did not want to be named, said: "They were filming an advert and there were about 300 extras and catering.

"It's an abomination. It's not just paper waste, but food waste as well.

"I love my city and it's great people are coming here but they should clean up afterwards.

"How dare they just think they can dump their trash like this."

All companies need council permission before filming and have to agree to clean up.

A Liverpool council spokeswoman said: "The company had arranged for the rubbish to be collected on the Friday but the contractor had to cancel.

"They arranged for a private contractor but there was a miscommunication. They only picked up half of the rubbish, and some bags were ripped open by foxes and dogs.

"The company is very embarrassed and takes full responsibility. The location manager came down himself to clean it up."

A spokesman for Biscuit Films said: "We are very sorry. We always try to leave a location in a better state than we found it but in this case that hasn't happened.

"Our location manager went down and cleaned up himself."

A bingo baby shower is a great idea for those who want something fun and different for their baby shower.

It's custom to have themes and various games at baby showers, and a bingo baby shower is one of the best and most popular types. A bingo baby shower will combine the fun of a bingo game and the excitement of a baby shower. Bingo is not only a great game; it's a great icebreaker, especially when the guests don't know each other very well. Playing a bingo game, with the players divided into teams, will encourage the guests to interact and get to know each other.

Planning a bingo baby shower is really easy. All you need is bingo cards, markers, small prizes or awards and lots of snacks! The host can make the cards beforehand, and have the players make their own home made cards. Even normal bingo sets can be used with only a few slight adaptations. Many shops cater especially for baby shower games and various baby shower bingo game sets can be found.

Part of the fun of a bingo baby shower is to have all the guests make their own cards. All they need is colored paper, scissors, rulers and colored pens and/or markers. Depending on the type of game being played, they can write down the names of expected gifts or draw pictures of baby related items. The bingo baby shower card usually consists out of 25 (5X5) or 36 (9x9) blocks.

Playing a bingo baby shower game is quite simple. The guests or the host decides on the type of bingo game, the cards are then made based on the game chosen. Guests can draw pictures of baby related items and then write down the names of the items on separate cards. All the cards are thrown in a hat and mixed together. The host will then draw the cards and read out the name. Guests match the names to the pictures on their bingo cards. The first guest to fill their card wins a small prize. The same goes for the bingo game where guests write down the names of the gifts they think the mother to be will receive. As she opens her gifts, they mark off the gifts on their cards. The first guest to fill their card wins bingo!

Remember that guests should shout bingo at the top of their voices, this way playing baby shower bingo is a lot more fun!

Before organising a baby shower, the host should take the ages of the guests and their interests into consideration. Most of the time a bingo baby shower is the perfect option because everyone, young and old, enjoy playing bingo.

Having a bingo baby shower is the new trend. The games are fun to play, easy to organise and can keep guests busy for hours. Mothers-to-be should ensure they are the talk of the town having the best bingo baby shower of the year!

Bingo Sets

|
Bingo is a very popular game all around the world. A few years ago bingo was associated with smoke-filled bingo halls and the elderly. Today this picture has changed dramatically. The new trend for old and young, male and female is to play online bingo.

All bingo lovers know that one of the essentials every player should have is their own bingo set. This bingo set can be used regularly on family vacations, visits with friends or even serve as an exhibition piece.

A typical bingo set will contain bingo cards, markers or chips, a cage with bingo balls, a bingo bag and a master board. But as the needs and demands of players change the contents of these sets change.

There are many types of bingo sets available, for example recreational, professional, home and double bingo sets. In short, there is a set to suit every player.

Before players buy bingo sets, they should decide whether they want to buy a 90 ball or a 75 ball game. The 90 ball game are played mostly in the United Kingdom and the 75 ball game in the United States.

The next step would be to choose between a set with bingo cards and markers, or shutter cards. If players prefer the bingo set with the markers, they will have to replace their cards regularly because players will mark off their numbers on the cards. There are many internet sites that allow players to create their own, randomly generated, cards. The other option is to buy sets with shutter cards or chips. This way all players have to do is simply slide the shutter or the chip over the number to mark it off and cards can be used again.

The two most popular types of bingo sets are sets with wooden balls and sets with plastic balls. Most sets contains a bingo cage in which the balls are placed. The cage is used to mix the balls and to randomly generate the next number for the caller to call.

Bingo sets are definitely not drab and boring. Many themed sets are available. The themes vary from Hello Kitty to Elvis, with pattern-printed cards and suitable markers.

Other popular bingo sets are bridal shower or baby shower bingo sets. Instead of numbers, these sets contain pictures and other baby or bridal items. Popular sets for children are maths, bible, animal and language bingo.

Playing bingo, whether it is playing on a website or in a hall or with a bingo set at home, is lots of fun. Not only is it a great form of relaxation, it is according to studies good for the mind!

Superstitions of Bingo Players

|
We live in a world where everyone tries to make or control their own luck in some way. Everyone knows that there is much more to the game than only skill... Bingo is a game where you cannot control the outcome... or can you? Most bingo players believe you can.

It's called bingo luck. Any experienced player would tell you that...
Ever wondered why horoscopes play such an important role in our every day life? Or why fortune tellers have such a big clientele? It's all about luck.

We live in a world where everyone tries to make or control their own luck in some way. Everyone knows that there is much more to the game than only skill... Bingo is a game where you cannot control the outcome... or can you? Most bingo players believe you can.

It's called bingo luck. Any experienced player would tell you that you can control or make your own luck. Most bingo players have certain rituals, superstitions and lucky charms to ensure they get a chance to yell 'bingo!' at the top of their voices.

Rituals play a very important role in bingo luck. Some players believe in walking three times around their chair before sitting down to play bingo. Others follow the same routine before they play to keep their luck going strong.

Then the superstitions... Most bingo players have a lucky seat. And don't forget lucky clothes such as pyjamas, t-shirts, shoes or special underwear. And, of course, there's more. Some have lucky days and times when they play . Your player name or nickname is also important - most bingo players believe that the name they play with influence their luck. Others believe that they can only win when certain roomies or friends are in the room! Most players believe that the number 13 is an unlucky number, and therefore find it a bad omen when a game starts with the number 13. Number 7, on the other hand, is one of the favourite lucky numbers.

The most important part of being lucky at bingo is of course lucky charms. The list of lucky charms players use is endless! Some have pictures of their loved ones or pets next to their computers and lucky seats. Most bingo players have lucky numbers. When asked, all these players can tell you why they've picked a specific number. But this is not all; most players carry a special lucky charm with them when they play ! These lucky charms can be anything from a rabbit's foot, elephants, teddy bears, cigars, Zippo's, dolls, monkeys and gemstones or birthstones.

Some online bingo players even believe that if they specifically ask for a ball the caller will give it to them. And they will go to great lengths to ensure the caller gives them that specific ball! They will beg, scream, swear and even make promises.

Of course the question lingers in the back of your mind. Does luck really work? Is there any proof? Some say that it defies reason and logic, but bingo players who have lucky charms, superstitions and rituals really win! Does this means it really works? Every bingo player has to figure it out for him or herself... after all, you make your own luck.

Court decision on Betcha.com delayed for a week - Online Bingo News

|
A Seattle-based online betting entrepreneur currently awaiting possible extradition to the US state of Louisiana will have to wait a further week to see if he will face charges for profiting by 70 cents on a betting transaction.

Nick Jenkins, the owner of the now defunct Betcha.com betting site is facing prosecution after a confrontation with Washington State gambling officials concerning the legality of his site.

Effectively out of business now thanks to the said officials, Jenkin's Betcha.com story is fast becoming a beacon for everything that is wrong with current US online gambling policy.  For many online bingo halls and operators of free online bingo games the US market is now a closed entity and cases such as the Betcha.com saga serve to illustrate just how dodgy it is to have anything to do with the US at this time.

Jenkins has maintained that Betcha.com operated legally because it functioned only as a gambling forum and did not bank games.  Currently, the US' Unlawful Internet Gambling Enfocement Act prohibits non-US bingo online operators from doing business in the US.
